Catching Up

Well, I know that I've been a terrible blogger. :) I'm officially in CT and settling in and I. am. loving. it. It's a little bit lonely being away from home and my family and friends but I think this is a really great move for me and will certainly get me going in a better direction than I've been heading.

I've had a wonderful two years since graduating college and I've learned/experienced a lot but there was just something that was missing. I am so excited that I'm beginning a new career and in a position to meet a ton of new people. Since my blogging has been so sporadic I don't really remember what I've already told you so bear with me if I start repeating myself...

I'm living in Fairfield County, CT and teaching Kindergarten (as an assistant) in a private day school here. I'm also pursuing my Masters in Education at a nearby University. As many of you are familiar, this area isn't exactly a low-rent district and while my employers contribute a sizeable amount to my graduate coursework the salary is less-than-stellar. To combat that I searched for a creative housing option for myself and was (fairly) successful in finding it. In exchange for room and board I am babysitting for a family for fifteen hours/week. It's not a bad situation- - I have my own space (it's really great) and the location is fantastic but it definitely has it's drawbacks...

It's freakishly strange though, the woman (the mom) is from my hometown and graduated from my high school 18 years before I did. Also? Her mother was a kindergarten teacher in my elementary school and I was in the classroom next to hers. AND? This family has a lakehouse in my hometown and spends the summer there. It's crazy, I know. Things have gone smoothly so far but, we'll see. :) They have three kids (aged 4, 2, 8mos) and are expecting a fourth in January... Yea. I am one of four so I can appreciate a large family but the household management skills here leave something to be desired. They have a full-time nanny and the mom stays at home and they have a cleaning service so...anyway. :)

The people at my new job are FANTASTIC. It's so great to be in a learning-friendly environment where everyone sincerely enjoys what they do and where they are. Of course, it's the beginning of the year and I'm sure this is only the honeymoon but I have high hopes. (Go figure.) And I've already been invited to a party at one of the other TA's house which is really great because we know that I don't do so well with making new girl friends.

I'm sure this is probably WAY more information that you were hoping for so I'll end here but there is still a lot more to say!

The US Open the other night was awesome even though I didn't get home until 2am. I'm heading back there on Thursday night for the Men's quarterfinals. One of my best guy-friends from home works at a large NYC company and got front row seats from his boss- - I can't wait. He however, will be going to his apartment in NYC after while I will be taking the train back to CT. By myself. At 2 am. Ugh. I'm really not looking forward to that. I'm sure I'll be fine but it's one of those things that is going to take some getting used to. In Vermont I don't even think we have a train.

At least all of this transitioning will make for some really great blog posts. I'm sure my Kindergarteners will provide lots of stories.

I'm here

and settling in. This could be one of the craziest things I have done in a while. Don't get me wrong, it's completely exciting and I was totally ready for something new, it's just a big adjustment. Yesterday was my first day at work and my first day in class. I can't believe it's been two years since I've been in a class... whoa. There are so many things I'm dying to share with all of you about the last 6 weeks of summer and moving to CT and the new job and EVERYTHING else!

I've been spending the past few days getting moved in and getting ready for school... more to come. I promise. :)

I hope all of you are well, I've stayed up to date and have been reading all of your blogs!
